Konstantin Scherbakov

Russian pianist Konstantin Scherbakov is one of the most frequently recorded pianists of today. Around 60 CDs document the pianist’s artistry on „Naxos“, EMI Classics, TwoPianists and „Marco Polo“ labels; among the recorded works are the Complete Works for piano and orchestra by Medtner, Scriabin, Respighi, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky; Complete Solo Piano Works by Shostakovich and Respighi, the first 14 CDs of the Complete Edition of the Godowsky’s Piano Works, as well as the Complete Beethoven / Liszt Symphonies, and works by Rachmaninoff, J. Strauss, Lyapunov and Scarlatti. Many of his recordings have won prizes and awards, such as the “Deutsche Schalplattenkritik – Preis” (Godowsky, Beethoven / Liszt), and the Classical Cannes Award (Shostakovich). Among the last recordings are 24 Etudes d’execution transendante by Liszt / Lyapunov and 32 Piano Sonatas by L.v. Beethoven recorded on Steinway label commemorating Beethoven’s 250th Anniversary.

Scherbakov’s concert activity includes participation in major festivals (Salzburg, Frankfurt, Bregenz, Bodensee, Lucerne, Klavier-Festival Ruhr, Schubertiade Feldkirch and Bad Kissingen, among others), as well as recitals, solo performances with orchestras and tours all over the world. Konstantin Scherbakov’s concerto repertoire consists of more than 60 concertos. Since 1998 he has been professor at the Zurich University of Arts; many of his students received prizes at international piano competition, most notably Yulianna Avdeeva, the winner of the last Chopin Competition in Warsaw. Konstantin Scherbakov conducted master classes in Germany, Italy, Taiwan, Brazil, Japan, New Zealand, Cuba, Singapore, South Africa and is a jury member of many international competitions, such as ARD Munich, Busoni (Bolzano), Liszt (Weimar), Rio de Janeiro, Youth Tchaikovsky (Seoul), Havana etc.
